The AICs at all levels in Yunnan strengthened the guidance and service for certification trademarks of geographical indications and promoted the work of enriching farmers by trademarks

     The AICs at all levels in Yunnan Province earnestly implemented the deployment of SAIC and Yunnan Provincial Government on the trademark development strategy, highlighted the importance, actively carried out the service for the cultivation, development and guidance of the trademarks of agricultural products and the certification trademarks of geographical indications, strengthened protection on geographical indications and effectively promoted the work of enriching farmers by trademarks.

  Firstly, active guidance was provided for application. The AICs at all levels in Yunnan researched and got to know the local industrial development plan for agriculture and the condition of the resources of geographical indications, gave positive advice to local party committee and government and strengthened guidance on application. In 2010, four certification trademarks of geographical indications were recognized in the province. They are “Yunlong Green Tea”, “Luoping Rape Oil”, “Kaiyuan Kapok” and “Kaiyuan Peach, and the total number of the certification trademarks of geographical indications reached 18 in the province. In addition, six trademarks including “Shaotong Apple”, “Baoshan Small-Particle Coffee”, “Longling Huanglong Jade Carvings”, “Fengqing Dianhong Tea”, “Yangbi Walnut” and “Jianshui Purple Pottery” have been preliminarily examined and announced by the Trademark Office.

  Secondly, standardized use was guided. Yunnan AIC carried out province-wide questionnaire survey and advocacy on the special logos of the products with geographical indications, got to knew the use condition and provided guidance. The combined use model of “a special logo of a product with a geographical indication + a certification trademark of the geographical indication” has been popularized among the registrants of “Pu’er Tea”, “Xuanwei Ham”, “Luoping Yellow Ginger”, “Xuanwei Potato” and other geographical indications. More than 100 million of special logos have been issued, achieving good results. The certification trademark of “Mojiang Purple Rice” drew great attention from the local government. Yunnan AIC held a special press conference for it and intensified advocacy through news media, “China Mojiang International Twins Festival and other publicity platforms. Meanwhile Yunnan AIC also initiated the work of the use of the trademark. Through strengthening supervision on key markets and organizing special protection campaigns, Yunnan AIC actively guided registrants to give full scope to the driving role of the certification trademark and promoted the work of enriching farmers by trademarks.

  Thirdly, follow-up service and supervision were conducted. The AICs of Qujing, Kunming, Chunqiong, Honghe, Pu’er and other prefectures and cities owning geographical indications in Yunnan arranged specific persons to manage the logos of certification trademarks, established account books for trademark logo warehouse registration, provided tracking and administrative service for the enterprises which are allowed to use trademarks, stuck to process management and link management, and further guided and authorized enterprises to use the certification trademarks and special logos of geographical indications in a standard way through on-site inspection of trademark logo use and other methods. The AICs carried out a special protection campaign for the certification trademarks of geographical indications, strictly investigated and punished the production and sales of fake and shoddy geographical indications and other unlawful acts and promoted the orderly development of the geographical indication industry.
